Inauguration and Ball

Here's a photo of the capital from where we were waiting for security.  After standing in the cold for hours waiting in the security line, we were told that people in the unticketed section broke through a barricade and filled our section, so we wouldn't be able to get in.  I turned around to get warm (and just listened to the events over loadspeakers), but I didn't get to actually see anything.  Corey stayed and was able to get really close up when they opened up a new area.  I was upset that I missed seeing the actual swearing in because I turned around, but when he told me that he had to jump a barricade to get his great view, I didn't feel as bad because I know I never would have risked it!

We don't have a lot of photos from the inauguration itself.  This is me and Corey getting in line for security.  Rosalyn stayed home since it was 8 degrees with the wind chill, but Corey bought me a new coat on the way to DC that kept me very warm!

Bathtime progression:

Her first bath at home was not fun for anyone.  For the second one, we were able to keep her quiet with a paci, but she still didn't enjoy it.  Now she splashes in the water (with a little help) and smiles most of the time.  :)

My mom loves bath time, so most of the photos include her.  She's got her own setup for baths in Macon, and suggests that we give Rosalyn a bath at every opportunity when we visit!

These have nothing to do with the DC trip or inaugural events (obviously, but I just realized that I never posted them!)

Pool time

While we were in DC we spent some time in the pool and hot tub, thawing from the frigid weather.  Corey had recently purchased a swimmie diaper for Rosalyn, so we got to try it out.

These aren't the most flattering photos of me and Corey, but we love having photos of her in the pool.

Rosalyn seemed to really enjoy the pool, and looks like she's waving at the camera.

Trip to DC - We Are One cencert

Hello again,

We just returned from a trip to DC to attend the inauguration and visit some friends.  We have lots of stories and photos, so I'll probably break these up into several posts over the next few days.  I guess I'll go in order.  we left last Friday to drive to DC, and Rosalyn did great in the car.  On Sunday, we went to the We Are One pre-inaugural concert at the Lincoln Memorial.  We decided to take Rosalyn with us, so we strapped her to Corey in the Baby Bjorn and closed his coat around her.

Rosalyn has now seen more stars perform that I ever had previous to that day.  Bruce Springsteen, Bono, Beyonce, Stevie Wonder, Usher, Will.i.am, Shakira, Sheryl Crow, John Mellancamp, Garth Brooks, James Taylor, Mary J. Blige, Josh Groban, Bon Jovi, , etc all played.  There were also speeches and readings from many other famous people, including Tom Hanks, Tiger Woods, Steve Carell, Queen Latifa, Denzel Washington, Jamie Foxx, Ashley Judd, and many others.

The crowd was estimated to be 400,000 at the concert (which is larger than Bush's actual inauguration).  We didn't have a great view of the stage, but they had big screens, and it was fun to just be a part of the crowd and sing along with everyone.

The Self family in DC to observe history.  I hope that when Rosalyn is older and I tell her about these photos, that things will be so different that she won't understand why this event was such a big deal.  Does that make sense?  I hope so.

The crowd behind us.  Most of you probably know how uncomfortable I am in crowds, so you must understand how excited we were to be a part of this if I enjoyed being in this crowd. :)

Growing and growing

Rosalyn and I went to Macon last weekend to celebrate Uncle Clint's birthday.

And we finally got a photo of me and Rosalyn with my mom and granny - 4 generations of hard-headed women!  Rosalyn's already quite stubborn and independent and comes by it honestly.

Little Miss Curious - just thought this was a cute shirt.  And like her dad and the rest of the Self family, she likes to stick her tongue out in photos.

She's starting to smile a lot!  :)

Random Rosalyn photos

I have been neglecting my blog duties, but here's an update on photos.  

Between Christmas and New Years we visiting my grandfather in Greenville, SC for a day, and because Corey wanted to look at a Grand Wagoneer (his "dream car") for sale.  She was really squirmy, so this isn't a great photo, but I'm glad I have one of her with Grandpa.

Rosalyn had to get an extra bath on a recent visit to Macon because Grandpa (my dad) changed her diaper and didn't put it on very tight - oops!

This was just a cute one of her sleeping, propped on the couch.  I think the "bib" is from Corey feeding her - he really gets the protective gear on.  :)

She's getting better with the baths.  I was really worried about having the water too warm at first, and I think it was actually too cold for her.  Now that we've solved that, baths aren't so bad.
