Tent time and exciting news
In other news, I think I have finally found a new app that will let me post videos. I posted a video we took while sledding a few weeks ago, and it seems to have worked. For all videos posted, just click where it says "watch on posterous" (posterous is the name of the app), and it will open a new window with the video.
Also, the app allows me to post several photos in one post so anytime I have multiple photos of the same event, they will appear all in one post, and hopefully in the appropriate order.

Broccoli
Rosalyn suddenly loves broccoli!
It's all because Papa ate broccoli when he visited last weekend. For dinner I made chicken, broccoli, green beans and sweet potatoes. Seeing my dad eat broccoli, Rosalyn started gobbling it up and wanted more the next night. I took this photo of her eating it to include in a presentation I had to give this week about the development of taste preferences and food habits.
Research shows that seeing someone eating a food is supposed to increase your preference for it, and WHO eats the food has a different effect depending on a child's age. Toddlers are supposed to be influenced by super heroes, older kids by their peers, so I added this picture to demonstrate that grandpa's are superheroes!
Tonight we went to the store and Rosalyn was adamant that we get more broccoli. This was much to Corey's chagrin, who in spite of having observed his favorite person (Rosalyn) eating it, still hates broccoli.
Oh well, more for me and Rosi!

Haven
We went to Haven last night to thank my mom for coming to visit so I could have a girl's day with some friends yesterday, and to celebrate that I have funding for my dissertation(!).
Rosalyn seemed to perceive that we were at a nice restaurant and was on her best behavior (she's always good at restaurants but seemed extra sweet and "proper" last night).
She had to have three plates, from left to right: her grilled cheese, the potato hay appetizer (think super skinny fancy French fries with fresh grated Parmesan and herbs), and her salad.
Exhausted
Rosalyn wet back to daycare for a half day on Friday - we were both excited!
We stopped at Kroger for some grocery shopping after daycare, and she was pretty worn out. She kept pretending to fall asleep in the store.
On the ride home, she almost zonked out, but when we got home she was a bundle of energy. This is the same night she kicked me out of her room at bedtime and was up after 11pm. Oh well.

Bed time temptation
Tonight when I was putting Rosalyn to bed, she kicked me out of her room (how can she be old enough for this already!?!). That was ~9:45. It's now almost 10:30, and for the last 45 minutes I've been sitting quietly at the kitchen table listening to her open and close her door and try to get the baby gate that we keep in her doorway unlocked.
Periodically, I think I've heard her whisper "mama," but she hasn't called out, so here I sit, waiting to see if she'll eventually go back to bed, fall asleep in her doorway, magically figure out how to open the baby gate, or suddenly start pitching a fit....
I'm sooo tempted to peek around the corner to see what's going on. I really wish I had one of those spy toys that let's you see around corners without being seen.

Time out
After a mostly fun and minimally productive week at home due to snow and ice, our neighbor Shanna and I agreed that yesterday we would swap 2 hour periods of watching each others children so the other could have a few moments of peace and / or productivity.
Rosalyn and I were at her house as naptime approached, and the tenacious twos reared up. Rosalyn was being very cranky and kept yelling "no" when I asked her to put some toys away or told her not to push Ansley over, etc. I scolded her, and she promptly went into the kitchen (as far from me as she could feasibly get) and sat down with her back to me. She stayed there for about 5 minutes, then returned to play with me and Ansley as if nothing had happened.
This happened three times, then we left to get a much-needed nap.

Friends
Rosalyn and Daddy spent some quality time cuddling with and reading books to her friends last night. She unloaded every single stuffed animal and baby doll she has into her bed, but she drew the line there - she wouldn't let me toss in a soft football or plush soccer ball for good measure.

Cuddle bugs
My unofficial limits on television watching have completely gone out the door this week as we've been cooped up inside. We've probably watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (3 times), Happy Feet (2-3 times), Madagascar (twice), a care bears movie, The Chipmunks Thanksgiving (desperate times call for desperate measures), an Elmo movie, and some cartoons on PBS kids. Wow! I hope her system doesn't go into shock when the snow melts and we don't get to watch so much TV.
We've also read about 35 books a day, sang lots of songs (the diva now has lyrics to go with her attitude), and had a few dance parties, so at least we are balancing different forms of media.
Each time we are watching TV, Rosalyn wants me right next to her. She's so sweet about it that it's hard to say no even though I'm getting more behind with works and household chores each day. She also wants Taffy either in her lap or between us on the couch, so in spite of having to go out in the snow to pee, Taffy's never been happier.
In other news, Taffy hasn't escaped the yard once since Snow-mageddon and the TV-cuddle-athon commenced.

We did a little sledding yesterday in our friend's driveway - she had tons of fun. Though she doesn't like standing or walking on the ice, so one of us had to carry her back to the top each time. Needless to say, mom and dad got very tired and she was still rearing to go!

Her majesty's sleigh
We have 5 inches of snow! Now icy rain is falling, and many people are expecting closing tomorrow too.
We are spending most of the day indoors (grateful for heat!), but we ventured outside for a little while so I could push Her Majesty's sleigh around in the yard and build a snowman with some neighbors.

Dinosaur shadow puppet
We went to the center for puppetry arts today and had lots of fun. We got to see the show, which was a ventriloquist with a friendly dragon puppet. Then we got to see the Jim Henson exhibit (sesame street, fraggle rock, etc) and create a puppet craft.
The craft was a dragon shadow puppet, to go with the theme of the show. Rosalyn is very proud of her dragon and didn't want me to help her make and decorate or carry it to the car.
She looks forward to showing it to daddy, and to Uncle Clint and Mary Awesome if we get to see them later today. :)

Dr. Rosi
Taffy has been receiving the most attentive cardiac care known to man - or dog. Rosalyn has checked her heartbeat so many times in the last 48 hours with this stethoscope we scored during one of her breathing-related hospitalizations. She's keeping pretty close tabs on me and Corey too.
Speaking of hospitalizations, we are so thankful that in spite of a few visits to the ER and several doctor visits for ear aches at the beginning of last year, 2010 was free from overnight hospital stays - yay!
Hoping for even better health this year!

All grown up
Rosalyn got an "iPhone" and car keys with keyfob from Mud and Boppa for Christmas. She thinks she's very grown up, but at least she isn't as intent on carrying our phones and keys around!
