Busy day

We had a busy but nice day today. Rosalyn's friend Clara came over this morning to make bird feeders (pine cones slathered in peanut butter and rolled in bird seed), then the girls played inside for a while and were supposed to take a nap. Here's a photo of them pretending to sleep. :)
Then Ansley came over to play for a while, and those two also had a lot of fun.
Corey supervised most of the play time because his allergies are terrible right now and he didn't want to be outside. I, on the other hand, thought that today was absolutely perfect for getting some work done in the garden!

We had a fun time at the St. Patricks Day parade in Savannah yesterday. Rosalyn enjoyed the bands (but had to cover her ears some) and the horses most, I think. It was fun, but eventually she got a little bored and tired. After getting scared by some gunfire right in front of us (part of the parade), she curled up in my lap for a nice nap.

Indian Mounds

Fun morning at the Ocmulgee Indian Mounds. I think we'll have to visit again to get the history aspect of it - Rosalyn's primary focus was the train tracks.

We did some hiking around the park, and it was a beautiful day. We looked at wildflowers and listened to birds, etc.

Once we wore ourselves out hiking (or, once Rosalyn wore me out since she wanted to have a leisurely ride in the stroller), we rested on the train bridge for a while to see if a train would come by. We waited 30-45 minutes without seeing a train, then we got up to leave. As soon as we walked off the bridge, I heard one coming, so we (I) RAN back to the center of the bridge, just in time to see the train ready to pass below us.

Rosalyn was so excited to see the conductors, which she called "conductioners" (my dad later corrected me and told us that we probably saw the engineers, not the conductors, but Rosalyn argued adamantly that it was the conductors). We were waving to them, and Rosalyn could see them waving back. They saw us running back up the bridge just in time and seemed as excited to see us as we were to see them! ROSALYN LOVED THE TRAIN. Like I said, we'll have to try again another time to explain the whole Indian thing.

Wesleyan pond

Fun afternoon at Wesleyan with the Santiagos! We threw bread to the geese, watched some other interesting birds in the trees and turtles in the pond.

Rosalyn and I had lots of fun today in Macon. Other photos (from my "real" camera) and stories will follow, but here are some photos from Rosalyn first salon pedicure. To be exact, they only painted her nails, but she had a blast and enjoyed showing everyone her bright pink toenails!

Birds and butterflies

No picture today, but cute story. Just a minute ago, Rosalyn went to the back door and went outside with saying a word. I walked over and called her back inside to find out what she was doing...

"Well, mom. There was a really pretty bird out there, and I think it came from Mexico like the butterflies (I assume this is based on the Seuss book My, oh my, a butterfly, which talks about the migration of monarch butterflies). So, I wanted to go outside and say hi to the bird and ask if it was from Mexico."

Lunch for herbivores

A few weeks ago, Rosalyn learned about carnivores and herbivores during a lesson about dinosaurs at daycare. We started talking at home about other animals that are herbivores (cows) and carnivores (lions). She made this during craft time at daycare - a bunch of leaves glued to a plate and titled "lunch for herbivores". It is now proudly displayed on my desk at work!

Georgia Organics conference

A few photos of my sweetie at the Georgia Organics conference - she was excited for her first bus ride (on the way to the farm tour) and made a point of flirting with the photographer every chance she got. She made friends with everyone around, including sharing a hula hoop with Jenny Harris from white oak pastures, where we get a lot of our grass-fed beef and pastures chickens from. And on the way home we stopped to do some hiking.
